About Theatrix
Joel Adams, founder and artistic director of Theatrix Group, was stage struck from the ripe age of 5. He went on to study Theatre Arts: Directing and Acting at Baylor University in the USA and subsequently has taught, acted, directed and written for the theatre for five decades on three continents, performing classical and conventional theatre, experimental theatre, mime, improvisation, children’s theatre, puppet theatre, and radio plays, and has worked in a number of TV series in the Middle East. He founded Theatrix Phuket in late 2014.
Since that time Theatrix has:
- Presented full plays such as The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), Romeo and Juliet, The 39 Steps, and Live and Let Thai, the latter two being major Theatrix productions in cooperation with the Junkyard Theatre with the promise of many more to come
- Presented the following pantos in cooperation with The Good Shepherd Phuket Town and the Junkyard Theatre: Aladdin; Treasure Island; May the Farce Be with You, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
- Presented The Selfish Shellfish by David Wood, the first in an ongoing series of children’s plays for the growing community of international school children on the island
- Presented two evenings of short plays and sketches, entitled Mixed Up and Love Bites, in various venues
- Presented interactive murder mystery evenings, such as Murder at Greenmane Towers, The Codfather, Murder Among the Mateys, Terror in Transylvania, and Murder at the Deadwood Saloon in a number of venues around the island
- Presented numerous evenings of hilarious short form improvisation with the Outta the Box team
- Taught acting classes to hundreds of students of all ages from 5 to 80 with many students joining us in plays onstage and becoming pillars of the group
The Theatrix vision is to create a theatrical hub at the Junkyard where plays for all ages are regularly performed, classes are taught, and creativity is encouraged and supported.
